OC Spots to Dig Into with Your Pup on National Dog Day

Parting with your pup is difficult, no doubt about it. Luckily, Orange County is home to a few spots that are not only dog friendly, but are also ideal locations to bring your little one (dog, that is) on National Dog Day on August 26th. Give your canine friend the attention they deserve by letting them tag along with their favorite humans on their special day, and maybe stop by a park or two on the way home, they’ll find a way to love you more than they already do!

 

4th Street Market
Santa Ana

Santa Ana’s 4th Street Market is home to over six tenants, each with their own creative offerings. One of those tenants, Electric City Butcher, has dog treats available for your pup. Dog owners can choose from Falasophy’s Lebanese grub, Civic’s comfort food, Mar’s fresh seafood, and Red Envelope’s Vietnamese-fusion bites, to name a few. Whatever you’re in the mood for on National Dog Day, this Santa Ana spot has you covered. Dogs allowed on 4th Street Market’s patio, just enter patio through the gate on Bush Street. Less than half a mile away is Birch Park, where you and your canine pal can work off some of your meal.

The Iron Press
Costa Mesa

The Iron Press’s bread and butter are waffles and beer. If that sounds like an ideal meal to you, The Iron Press is your place. They have an outdoor patio where dogs can relax as you chow down on a fried chicken waffle sandwich, BLT waffle sandwich, wings, or buffalo cauliflower. The Costa Mesa joint also has an impressive 30 beers on tap to wash down your waffle. They’ll bring out some water for your pup, and you can order some grilled chicken for your hungry canine. Just a seven minute drive away is Costa Mesa Bark Park, a two-acre fenced off-leash dog park where your pup can roam free.

Pelican Isle Restaurant and Sports Bar
Huntington Beach

Huntington Beach is home to the Huntington Dog Beach, the only off-leash dog beach in the OC. Only a seven minute drive away from the dog beach is Pelican Isle Restaurant and Sports Bar, a waterfront restaurant with a dog-friendly dockside patio where you and your dog can enjoy some Southern California sun and ocean views. Pelican Isle has a ton of salad and sandwich options for humans, like a Reuben, Chicken Breast Sandwich, Chicken Cobb Salad. With a sports bar feel and a dog-friendly environment, you and your pup will feel right at home.

Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar
Irvine

At Lazy Dog, it’s all about — you guessed it — dogs. You and your pup can dine out on the patio but they’ll have to be kept on a leash. Your dog has the options of a Grilled Hamburger Patty & Brown Rice, Grilled Chicken Breast & Brown Rice, and a plain bowl of brown rice, all of which are under $5. They’ll even get a complimentary bowl of water to go with their meal. For humans, Lazy Dog offers an extensive menu of soups, sandwiches, pizzas, pastas, and main protein dishes. They also have a great seasonal menu, which features items like Street Corn Wheels, Ancient Grains and Roasted Veggie Salad, and a Grilled Steak Salad. Beach Pit BBQ

If barbeque and dogs are your thing, Beach Pit BBQ will be right up your alley. They offer Texas smoked flavored with California style. Sit outside on the patio with your pup, and enjoy last few weeks of Summer. Beach Pit BBQ will bring water out for your dog and even a few treats sometimes. They meats are hand-rubbed with different dry rubs and smoked up to 14 hours with Hickory and Almond wood, which give their dishes amazing flavor and tenderness.
